Melvin E. Haas, 79, of Westfield and formerly of East Greenville, died Apr. 21, 2014 in Wellsboro.
He was the husband of Jean L. (Schultz) Derr Haas celebrating 17 years of marriage on June 7, 2013 and the late Virginia F. (Burgess) Haas.
Born in New Hanover Township, he was a son of the late Percival and Luella (Schoenly) Haas.
He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a Maintenance Mechanic at Philco Ford in Lansdale for 30 years retiring in 1999. He also worked as an auctioneer in the Upper Perkiomen Valley and the surrounding areas for many years.
Surviving, along with his wife, are four children, Theresa Haas, Bechtelsville; Judith, wife of Wade Houck, Mohrsville; Heidi, wife of Louis Burgert, Pennsburg; Keith Haas and partner, Hilary Tracy, Bechtelsville; two brothers, Curtis Haas and wife, Nancy, Boyertown; Larry Haas and wife, Georgette, Sabinsville; four grandchildren, Justine Gery, Hudson Falls, N.Y.; Josef Gery and wife, Ray Ann, Macungie; Matthew and Paige Burgert, Pennsburg; 2 great-grandchildren, Mark James Snyder and Draven Gery; step-son, Brian Derr and wife, Dawn, Fleetwood; two step-grandchildren, Brandon and Kenneth Derr; nephew, Robert Haas and niece, Donna Haas.
Along with his first wife and parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Fern L. Haas, and a nephew, Larry Scott Haas.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday with funeral services following at 2 p.m. at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville.
Burial to follow in Christ Union Cemetery.
