Janet E. Owlett, 84, of Wellsboro, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at The Green Home in Wellsboro.
She was the wife of Atty. Edward H. (Ted) Owlett, whom she married on Aug. 26, 1950. They were married for 63 years. Janet was born March 27, 1930, in Wellsboro, the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Electa (Button) Evans.
Janet completed her secondary education at the National Cathedral and attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the University of Michigan. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro and served in the choir. In addition she was a member of Wednesday Morning Musicals, Friday Club, Wellsboro Foundation, Friends of the Green Free Library and she served as a judge for the Laurel Festival for many years. Janet was the first Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen from Wellsboro in 1947.
Surviving are her husband, Edward; three sons, Edward H. Owlett III (Mary Elizabeth), Steven E. Owlett (Jill C.), Thomas M. Owlett ( Mary C.), all of Wellsboro; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Owlett, Tricia Owlett, Carson Owlett, Olivia Owlett, Thomas Owlett, Jr., Laura Owlett, and Robert Owlett, all of Wellsboro. Janet was preceded in death by a son, G. Mason Owlett.
Friends and family are invited to Janet's Life Celebration on Monday, July 7, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro, with the Rev. Glen Hallead officiating. Burial will be in Wellsboro Cemetery. Family will provide flowers. Memorials may be made in Janet's name to the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro, 130 Main St., Wellsboro, Pa. 16901. Local arrangements are by Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home", 139 Main St., Wellsboro.
