Joan E. Howe, 72 of Pease Hill Road, Nelson, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at her home.
Born Apr. 6, 1940 in Caton, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Adelbert and Winona (Hackett) Stewart.
She is survived by her husband, John K. Howe; a son, Bruce (Melissa) Kirk, Elmira, N.Y.; two daughters, Kristi (Todd) Brown and Michelle (Eric) Whalen, both of Knoxville; step sons, John Paul (Diantha) Howe, Caton, N.Y.; Tom (Faith) Howe, Andrew (Michelle) Howe and Dan (Brenda) Howe, all of Lawrenceville; step daughter, Amy (Mike) Coates, Tioga; her brothers, Gary Stewart, Caton; Duane (Sue) Stewart, Nelson; Gene (Linda) Stewart, Erwin, N.Y.; her sisters, Pat Mangus, Louisville, Ky.; Lorraine (Neal) Butler, Elkland; Barbara (Donald) Migliore, Florida; Lucille (Van) Emmons, Westfield; Melva (Michaleen) Stewart, Albuquerque, N. Mex.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joan was preceded in death by two sons, Daryl and Marty Kirk.
A memorial service was held at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 West Main Street, Elkland, on Saturday, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Sandra Hemker officiating.
