John H. Torpy, 101, of Wellsboro, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Broad Acres.

He was married to Clara J. Reese who preceded him in death in 2007. John was born July 16, 1912, in Delmar Township, Draper, the son of the late Merle and Mary Willard Torpy.
John was a truck driver for Taynton's Trucking, Wellsboro for 31 years. He was a member of the Jersey Shore Moose Lodge #214, Jersey Shore.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou Young-Davis (Glenn) of Wellsboro; son and daughter-in-law, Duane Torpy (Phyllis) of Billings, Mont.; step-son, Thurston Knapp of Virginia; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Kendrick Torpy in 1960; brothers, Donald Bruce, Quentin, and Edgar Torpy; step-son, Thurlow Knapp.
Friends and family are invited to John's Life Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Funeral will follow at 2 p.m., with the the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey McCleary officiating. Burial will be in Wellsboro Cemetery.
