Afra J. Hassler

Mrs. Afra J. Hassler, 88, of 141 Church Hill Road, Lehighton, passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 9, in her residence. She was the wife of Ray W. Hassler. They were married for 51 years last July 15.
She and her husband co-owned the former Modern Food Mart, Summit Hill. She and her family were very instrumental in the founding of the former Bundy Tubing Company, Hometown.
Born in Summit Hill, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Grosso) Frassinelli.
She was a graduate of the former Summit Hill High School.
She was a member of Ben Salem UCC, East Penn Township, where she served as a council president.
She also formerly served on the Lehighton Area School Board, and belonged to the former Summit Hill Flower Club and the Carbon Beagle Club, where she served as secretary.
In her spare time, she loved art and playing the violin.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Richard A. of Littleton, Mass., Daniel F., and his wife, Lisa, of Durham, N.C., and Robert T., and his wife, Kelly, of Hartland, Wis.; a brother Guido, and his wife, Antoinette, of Rancho Palos Verde, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Andrew, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Hannah, Jane, Emma, Maria, Esther, Rebecca, Miranda, Joseph and Alexander Hassler; and nieces and nephews.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Rd., Lehighton with the Rev. Michael J. McGowan officiating. Interment, Woodland Cemetery, Coopersburg. Call 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Arrangements by Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton.
