David E. "Scummer" Snyder, 60, of 337 ½ Bridge St., Lehighton died March 28, 2014, at his residence. He was the husband of Dana L. Wertman Snyder. They were married for nine years last April 30, 2013.
Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Wayne and Pauline Frey Snyder.
He was a graduate of Lehighton Area High School class of 1972 where he was an outstanding athlete in football and wrestling. He wore no. 34 on the gridiron and received the MVP for the 1971 football season.
He was most recently employed at KME in Nesquehoning as a metal fabricator and previously worked in the same capacity at The Strick Corp. in Mahoning Valley, and was a part time bar tender at Lehigh Fire Co. no. 1, where he was very active. He was of the Lutheran faith. Socially, he was a Life Member at Lehigh Fire Co. no. 1, a member of The Lehigh-ton American Legion Post 314, The Packerton Old Timers Club, and Orioles Nest 183.
Being an avid sports enthusiast, he loved to fish, watch Notre Dame Football, Pittsburgh Steelers Football, Phillies Baseball, and no. 43, Richard Petty at Pocono Raceway during the NASCAR season.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Ashley Snyder of Lehighton, Melissa Snyder, of Palmerton, a stepdaughter, Dillion Koch, a stepson, Zachary Hunter of Lehighton, two sisters, Deborah, wife of Paul Simon of Lehighton, Christina, wife of Eugene Cardoni of Bowmanstown, a brother, Kim "Yogie" Snyder of Lehighton; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald "Slap" Snyder, and Terry "Mumphy" Snyder.
Services: A Celebration of Life service in his honor will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday. April 1 at Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton with the Rev. Guy R. Grube officiating. Call 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment service will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to The Lehighton Fire Company, 140 S. Third St., Lehighton, Pa. 18235.
