Elva L. Smith

Mrs. Elva L. Smith, 78, of Center Avenue, Jim Thorpe, died Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. She was the widow of Kenneth C. Smith, who died Jan. 9, 2003.
Born in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late William and Ethel M. (Strohl) Yackanicz.
She was a 1952 graduate of the former Nesquehoning High School.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. John Lutheran Church "In the Heights,"Jim Thorpe.
She was very talanted with her hobbies, baking, crocheting and ceramics, to list a few. She loved being with her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Connie, wife of Joseph Quinn of Jim Thorpe, and Bonnie, and her fiancé, Daniel Becker, of Lehighton; two sons, Wayne, and his wife, Sally, of Jim Thorpe, and Troy, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Utica, N.Y.; a sister, Adda Stempa of Nesquehoning; five grandchildren, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by a sister, Barbara Pecha; and three brothers, Edward, Robert and William.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, St. John Lutheran Church, Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. F. Peter Muhr officiating. Interment, Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call 9-11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Arrangements by Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe.
