Helen M. Murphy Dewire

Mrs. Helen M. Murphy Dewire, 83, of 222 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, died Sunday, Dec. 2, in the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. She was the widow of Donald Dewire, who died in 1996.
She retired from the former Atlas Powder Co., Reynolds.
Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Alice (Fisher) Davies, and was raised by the late Thomas and Harriet Murphy.
She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua.
She was an avid reader and cook, and enjoyed crocheting and baking with her great-granddaughter.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra D., wife of J. Ted Lileck of Tamaqua; a son Donald, and his wife, Margaret, of Arapahoe, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Neff, Maggie Freedman and Kevin and Brian DeWire; and four great-grandchildren, Tanis and Sierra DeWire and Amelia and Joshua Freedman; a sister, Catherine "Kitty," wife of Adam Sanders of Baltimore, Md.; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua. Interment, parish cemetery, Tamaqua. Call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 8:45-9:30 a.m. Friday, E.
