Howard F. Miller

Howard F. Miller, father, and grandfather, 74, of Tamaqua, died Saturday, Oct. 6, in the St. Luke Hospital, Fountain Hill, surrounded by his family, after a courageous fight against cancer.
He was the husband of the late Donna Lee (Semko) Miller, who died Dec. 24, 2008.
A 1955 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he entered the Marine Corps at 17 years of age upon graduation. Satisfying his service to his country, he returned home, graduating from Goldie Beacon Business School, Wilmington, Del., with an associate degree in accounting and business administration.
He owned the North Central Development Corporation, which was responsible for introducing high-rise development for low-to-middle income residents in the coal regions of Pennsylvania. His first two builds were in Shamokin and Tamaqua. He later would become the property manager of these and other properties. Recently, he operated Omni Capital Ventures.
An active member of the First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua, he helped to establish the Tamaqua Knee- Hi Football program. He was a longtime president of the Tamaqua Y.M.C.A.; a member of the Tamaqua Elks and T.P.A. of America, Anthracite Chapter; and a past president of the former Mahoning Valley Country Club.
An avid golfer, he was a proud supporter of all coal region high school sports teams, traveling near and far in support of the local teams.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Claude E. and Mabel E. (Rieman) Miller.
Surviving are a daughter, Cindy J., and her partner, Karen A. Deininger of London, England; a son, Howard C. "Howie," and his wife, Corinne, of Tamaqua; a twin brother, Edwin S., and his wife, Dolores, of Mahanoy City; three grandchildren, Dair, Tucker and Kendle, who affectionately called him "Pop;" and his mother-in-law, E. Jane Semko of Tamaqua.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Russell F., who died on Nov. 4, 2007.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 5 pm to 8 pm Thursday, October 11, 2012.
Service: Interment with military honors will be conducted at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua, at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua, with the Rev.
