Mrs. Irene E. Evanko, 86, of Coaldale, formerly of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 27, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. She was the widow of John P. "Slim" Evanko, who passed away June 21, 1983.
She and her husband were owners and operators of Slim's Bar and Grille, Nesquehoning. from 1945-97.
Born in Lansford, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Barbara (Ardos) Junas.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Nesquehoning, and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.
Surviving are three sons, John Jr., and his wife, Margaret (Seyfried), of Salisbury Township, Richard, and his companion, Cheryl Blanco, of Nesquehoning, and Joseph, and his companion, Annamarie Hartzell, of Franklin Township; a daughter Regina, wife of William Moran of Jim Thorpe; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Jupin, Margaret Kravelk and Anna Brunda.
Service: Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 2, Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning; Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m., St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Nesquehoning. Interment, SS. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Nesquehoning. Call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
