John M. Brunda

John M. "Brodo" Brunda, 80, of West Bertsch Street, Lansford, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 22, in the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of Eleanor C. (Lazar) Brunda.
They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 6, 2012.
He worked at Johns Manville, N.J., for 10 years; was a Lansford police officer for several years; and had his own painting and construction business for many years. Most recently, he was a driller for Bethlehem Mines, retiring in 1992.Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Mikulski) Brunda.
He was a life member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Lansford.
Brunda was a 1950 graduate of the former Lansford High School, where he played football.
He served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War.
He loved to hunt and fish; was an avid woodworker; and was a loyal Eagles and Penn State fan.
Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Roxane J., wife of Carl Graham of Deland, Fla., Teresa Lupco, at home, and Eleanor F., wife of John Dieter of Lansford; two sons, John R., and his wife, Vicki, of Tamaqua, and Robert J., at home; three granddaughters, Nicole (Lupco), wife of Tom Boyle, and Amelia Brunda, both of Tamaqua, and Leslie Lupco, and her companion, Chris Theobald, of Lansford; and a great-granddaughter, Alexandria Theobald of Lansford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Francis J. in 1976 and Jerry J. in 1983; a brother Francis at Lincoln Air Force Base, Neb., in 1955; and a brother Michael in 1930.
