John M. Yanchura
John M. Yanchura, 58, of 31 Park Ave., Nesquehoning, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 201, at St. Luke's Miner Memorial Hospital in Coaldale. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Gehring) Yanchura.
John served as a police officer in Lansford, retiring after 18 years of service. He last worked for the Transportation Security Administration in Philadelphia.
Born in Palmerton, he was the son of Paul V. Yanchura Jr. of Lansford and the late Mary (Kopko) Yanchura.
He was a graduate of Panther Valley High School, Class of 1975.
He was a member of the former St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Lansford, and was a current member of St. Katharine Drexel Roman Catholic Church in Lansford.
John served on the Panther Valley Soccer Association.
Surviving, along with his father and wife; are three sons, Ryan Yanchura, Aaron Yanchura, and Noah Yanchura, all at home; a daughter, Nichole Eckert of Lansford; two brothers, Paul V. Yanchura III, and his wife Kathy, and Marc Yanchura, and his wife Ann, both of South Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Gail.
Services: Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. in St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 124 E. Abbott St., Lansford. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Summit Hill. Calling hours are from 10-11 a.m. in the church.
