Jonathan Matthew Schuster, 31, of Palmerton, formerly of Queens, N.Y., passed away suddenly on Friday, June 13, in the Palmerton Hospital.
He was a mechanic for the Blue Mt. Ski Area and Resort, Palmerton.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of Karen J. Smith of Kresgeville and John Schuster of Phoenix, Ariz.He was a decorated Marine and Army veteran, having served our country with dedication and courage holding on to a sense of bravery as he served his first tour of duty in the Marine Corps in Iraq and his second tour of duty in the Army. After his discharge from the military, he continued to service his country in the Army Reserve.
Jonathan was a member of Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville.
He was a member of the F. & A.M., Allentown; a volunteer firefighter for the Palmerton Volunteer Fire Company; and a member of the American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, and the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club.
We give thanks for the way Jonathan has blessed our lives with treasured memories. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Karen J. Smith of Kresgeville; and his father, John Schuster of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was a loving father to his two sons, Matthew Michael and Ryan John, both of Saylorsburg. He is also survived his maternal grandmother, Ednarose Smith of Stroudsburg; paternal grandmother, Louise Schuster of Ridgewood, N.Y.; two brothers, Jason, and his wife, Amelia, of Kunkletown, and Thomas of Kresgeville; two sisters, Christine, wife of Brad Kuntzman, and Kara, wife of Travis Kern, both of Kresgeville; his aunt and godmother, Maureen Bauer of Stroudsburg; a uncle and godfather, Paul Bauer of Cresco; nine cousins, Melinda, Elizabeth, Erin, Katie, Matthew, Kristen, Elizabeth, Sydnie and James; and three nephews, Alexander, Jayce and Caiden.
He was also preceded in death by his grandfathers, William Schuster and Bernard Smith.
He loved his family deeply, and through life's ups and downs, joys and sorrows, laughter and tears, he was always there for those he loved.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, with the Rev. Michael Frost officiating and Gary Potts assisting. Private interment at convenience of family. Call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30-10:15 a.m. Thursday, Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Rt. 209, Gilbert, and 9:30-10:15 a.m. Thursday.
