Mazie I.L. Ziegler

Mazie I.L. Ziegler, 99, of Lehighton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mahoning Township.
She was an educator for 38 years, having began teaching in Parryville from 1937-1942. She then became a member of the Lehighton Area School District faculty as a teacher and high school librarian from 1942-1975.
She also was a Fulbright exchange teacher to Bonn, Germany, in 1954-1955, and also worked for H & R Block for 11 years as a tax preparer.
Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Harvey E. N. and Eva Lavina (Dreher) Ziegler.
She was a 1930 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and a 1934 graduate of Kutztown University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in education and was a member of Tau Kappa Sorority.
She received her master of arts certificate in library service from Columbia University and also attended the University of Illinois and Bonn University in Germany.
The deceased was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton, and a life member of the NEA, PAEA, PSEA, PSEA-R, PSERS, PASR and CCPASR.
She was one of the original directors of the Lehighton Area Memorial Library.
Surviving are a nephew, Tyler Schlecht, and his wife, Marie, of Lehighton; a niece, RuthAnn Schlecht; great-nieces and great-nephews, Michael E. Schlecht, Christina Ahner, Ellen Tappan, Paula Fritzinger, Paulette Heilman and Tyler Schlecht Jr.; 11 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and three great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister Pauline; and a nephew, Ervin "Jack" Schlecht.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, Schaeffer Funeral Home, Third and Alum streets, Lehighton, with the Rev. Anthony Pagotto officiating. Interment, Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, Lehighton. Call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
