Stanley J. Karnish

Stanley J. "Sonny" Karnish, 74, of West Broad Street, Tamaqua, died Saturday, Dec. 1, in the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Coleman) Karnish. They were married for 51 years.
He worked for F.W. Armitage, Allentown, retiring from Air Products & Chemicals, Hometown, in 2001 after 22 years working as a welder.
Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Joseph and Valerie (Mikulsky) Karnish.
He was a devoted member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua.
A 1956 graduate of the former Lansford High School, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He loved to fish and was a member of the Lehigh Valley Fishing Association.
Karnish was a life member and trustee of the East End Fire Company and a member of American Legion Post 173, both of Tamaqua. He was also a member of the Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County.
A Yankees fan, he was a ardent Notre Dame football fan, having traveled to many games.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Terese A., wife of Steven Ristila of Tamaqua; three sisters, Sr. Josita, O.S.F., of Mt. Pocono, and Roseanne, wife of Stephen Orach, and Elizabeth, wife of William Coll, both of Lansford; a brother John of Lansford; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Stanley J. Jr., who died in 1968; and a sister, Bernadine Porambo.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua. Interment with military honors, parish cemetery. Tamaqua.
