Thomas Shober Sr.
Thomas Shober Sr., 74, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 2, three days before his 75th birthday, in Blue Mountain Health System's Lehighton Campus. He was the husband of Joan (Shigo) Shober. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on March 3.
Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late James and Anna (Dougherty) Shober.He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church, both of Nesquehoning.
- He was employed by A.T. & T. as an electronic technician for 18 years until retiring.
A 1956 graduate of the former Lansford High School, he was an Air Force veteran, having served in the United States and Thule, Greenland.
Shober was a member of the Panther Valley School District Board of Education for 30 years, where he was a staunch advocate for the students and taxpayers of the district.
He was a life member of the Lansford AMVETS Post, the Nesquehoning American Legion Post and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a member of the PIAA District XI Committee for 16 years.
Surviving in addition to his widow are three sons, Tom Jr., and his wife, Marie, of Barnesville, Ted, and his wife, Ann, of Absecon, N.J., and Joe, and his wife, Dee, of Palmer Township; two daughters, Teri Yurick, wife of the late Paul Yurick Jr., of Summit Hill, and Pat, wife of Greg Pecha of Nesquehoning; two brothers, John of Allentown and Edward, and his wife, Beverly, of New Castle; three sisters, Anne, wife of Howard Heffelfinger of Egypt, Joan Danielwicz of Maple Shade, N.J., and Verna Patuka of Center Valley; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Robert; and two sisters, Marion "Betty" Bonner and Margaret L Crampsie.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Nesquehoning, with the Rev. Francis P. Schoenauer officiating. Military graveside service, Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown, under direction of the Tamaqua American Legion. Call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church. Contributions in his name may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Air Conditioner Fund, 15 E. Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning, Pa. 18240. Arrangements by Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E.
