Roger Fisher Obituary
Roger L. Fisher, 86, of Towamensing Township, passed away on Monday, March 12, in his residence. He was the husband of Barbara G. (Fritz) Fisher. They were married for 67 years this past New Year's Eve.
Prior to ret-iring, he was an insur-ance agent in the Lehighton area and was the owner/operator of The Fisher Insurance Agency.
He worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation during the early 1960s.
Born in Weissport, he was a son of the late Samuel and Leona (Getz) Fisher.
He formerly attended church services at Jacob's UCC, Weissport.
A black powder enthusiast, Roger's life endeavor was muzzle-loading. He was a founding member of the 1976 First Frontier Militia of the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club. Several of his black powder writings were nationally published in the Fur, Fish & Game outdoor sportsman's magazine.
In his spare time, he could be found hunting the local woodlands and fishing the Canadian waterways.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Scott, and his wife, Dora, of Palmerton, and Curt of Lehighton; a grandson, Jeffrey Fisher in Georgia; and many black powder friends.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton, with SALM Emma Weaver officiating. Interment, Franklin Heights Memorial Park, E. Weissport. Call 9:30 -11 a.m. Friday. Contributions in his name may be made to The First Frontier Militia, c/o Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Rd., Palmerton, PA 18071. The world lost a beautiful soul. He was a mentor and friend to me when I entered the world of black powder. God Bless to those he left behind on his journey to see the Great Spirit above. Barbara and family, I have known Roger for about 25 years. We would travel together to different muzzleloader events from Pa. to Maine. I will miss his antics and friendship, he will be greatly missed. his friend, Dave Algard p.s. save me a spot at the shooting bench.
