Charles H. "Reds" Garner Jr.
Charles H. "Reds" Garner Jr., 77, of New Ringgold, formerly of Roxborough, Philadelphia, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, in his home. He was the husband of Ann (McCormick) Garner. They observed their 58th wedding anniversary on Feb. 9.
He enjoyed woodworking and taking much pride in building their log home.
Previously, he was a firefighter for the Philadelphia Fire Department.
Reds had played AAA baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Elizabeth (Glanding) Garner.
He was of the protestant faith.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and was proud to be the first ticket holder to the Pocono Raceway.
He was preceded in death by a brother Robert "Bob".
In addition to his wife, Reds is survived by two sons, Glenn of Nazareth; and Jeff and his wife, Sara of Blakeslee; sister, Betty Ann Thummel of West Chester; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services: A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 22, at the Hartman Funeral Home, Inc., 1791 West Penn Pike, Route 309, New Ringgold with the Rev. Thomas H. Miller officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 555 North Lane, Conshohocken Pa. 19428 and American Cancer Society, 101 W. Frack St., Frackville, Pa. 17931. Hartman Funeral Home, Inc., 1791 West Penn Pike, Route 309, New Ringgold is in charge of funeral arrangements.
