Alfred P. Vavra
Alfred P. Vavra, 87, of Lansford, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Lehigh Center in Macungie. He was the husband of the late Josephine (Ispecky) Vavra.
Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late Joseph and Karoline (Chovanec) Vavra.
He worked for the former Philip Gurian & Son Garment Company in Hometown as a production manager.
Alfred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War having been a medic.
He was a member of the former St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Lansford and current member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley in Summit Hill. Alfred was a member of the Coaldale Russian Club.
Surviving are a son, Allan Vavra, and his wife, Joanne Wert, of Allentown; a daughter, Jody Vavra Bentley of Summerville, S.C.; grandchildren Erin Vavra and Bradley Vavra; a brother, Sylvester Vavra of Coaldale; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Vavra; and sisters, Helen Vavra, Victoria Zuber, Valerie Yost, Josephine Smith and Rose Zenzel.
Service: Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 14, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley, 462 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Summit Hill.
