Mrs. Ann L. Kurash, 84, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 2, in the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. She was the wife of Michael Kurash.
They were high school sweethearts and celebrated their 61st wedding annivers-ary last August.
Born in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Mary (Mulligan) Sweeney.She was employed at the National Bank after graduation and then left to start her loving family.
She was a lifelong resident of Nesquehoning, where she was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary Society of the church.
Ann was blessed with an Irish cheerfulness and infectious laughter. She was a kind and gentle soul who spent countless hours reciting the rosary for everyone she knew. She loved Russian literature and taught her children to sing. She waited patiently each year to cheer on the Middies during the Army-Navy football game.
She enjoyed Christmas. She trimmed the tree the day after Thanksgiving and always left the tree up and decorated long after Russian Christmas.
Her favorite saying was Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. She handled life's challenges with grace and prayers. She was fond of saying "so long," instead of "good bye." "So Long, Mom."
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son John, and his companion, Laura, of South Middleton Township; four daughters, Connie, wife of Don Herman, and Mary Pat, wife of Frank Hinkle, both of Jim Thorpe, Nadine, wife of Daniel Grassick of Albany, Ore., and R. Lisa, wife of George Kovarie of Mertztown; a sister, Mary Kennedy of San Marcos, Calif.; seven grandchildren Christian, Joel, Joseph, Gabrielle, George Michael, Keri and Cara; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael B.; and a brother James.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 140 W. Mill St., Nesquehoning. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Nesquehoning. No calling hours. Contributions in her name may be made to the church, c/o 15 E. Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning, Pa. 18240. Arrangements by Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.
