Mrs. Arlene Helen Arner, 79, of Andreas, passed peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Monday evening, Oct. 21. She was the widow of Dr. Robert A. Arner, to whom she was married for 54 years.
She graduated from Tamaqua Area High School, married and managed their family's dental practice in Summit Hill with her husband, and later with her son, Dr. Kirk Arner, for over 40 years.
Born in New Ringgold, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Helen (Grube) Shellhamer.
She was a member of Zion's Stone Church of West Penn Township and belonged to the Gnaden Huetten Chapter of the Pennsylvania Order of the Eastern Star, Lehighton.
Mrs. Arner was a Rotarian in the Lansford Rotary Club for many years.
She was a past member of the St. Paul UCC congregation, Summit Hill.
She was an avid gardener and an exceptional cook and also enjoyed antiquing and interior decorating her family home.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Kirk, and his wife, Pamela, of Lehighton; four daughters, Karen, wife of David Clark of Nazareth, Kimberlee, wife of Gerald Burkett of Tamaqua, Kay, wife of Kerry Williams of Orange County, Calif., and Karla, wife of Thomas Tessitore of Medford Lakes, N.J.; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica and Kirk Arner, Katherine and Karalynne Clark, Dr. Christine, Laura and Daniel Gallagher, and Kassandra and Thomas Tessitore; two sisters, Joan, wife of Dale Steigerwalt of Whitehall, and Eva Mae, wife of Donald Miller of Andreas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, Zion's Stone Church of W. Penn Twp., with the Rev. Michael A. Frost officiating. Interment, church cemetery. Call 6-9 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Contributions in her name may be made to the memorial fund of the church, 45 Cemetery Rd., New Ringgold, Pa. 17960.
