Clarence J. Suydam, 83, of 65 East Lizard Creek Road, Lehighton, formerly of Easton Pa., and Milbridge Maine, died April 10 at Blue Mountain Health System, Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton, Pa.
Born in Phillipsburg, N.J., he was a son of the late Clyde and Lola DeHart Suydam. He served our country for two years with the U.S. Army attaining the rank of PFC (T) during the Korean War with the 4345th Service Co. while stationed in Nuremberg, Germany. He later served seven years with the Army Reservists.
- He was the husband of the late Gladys Pinkham Suydam.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a foundry worker with The Ingersoll Rand Corporation in Phillipsburg, N.J. for over 30 years.
He was of the protestant faith. He was a life member of the Bushkill Valley Motorcycle Club, a 30-year member of the Forks Township Volunteer Fire Co., the American Legion in Maine, the Knights of Pythias, Maine, and the North American Hunting Club. As an avid motorcycle and automobile racing enthusiast, he raced on Nazareth Speedway and participated in the Freemansburg Hill Climb events.
In his spare time, he loved to hunt, fish, bowl and play a round of golf.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Louis Suydam of Bethlehem, Pa.; Pamela L., wife of Scott Berger of Lehigh-ton; Amy Jo Suydam of Pen Argyl, Pa.; a son, Timothy S. Suydam of New Ringgold, four grandchildren, Hali and Hannah Dennis, Logan and Bryanna Berger, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Clyde Earl Suydam.
Services: Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, at the Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton, with the Rev. Anthony P. Pagotto officiating, followed by full military honors under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVO. Call 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
