Claudia J. Sokol Obituary
Mrs. Claudia J. Sokol, 55, of Summit Hill, entered into eternal rest Friday, Feb. 22, in the St. Luke Hospital, Bethlehem Campus, after health complications that occurred while she was on the job as a fire police officer for the Diligence Fire Co. No. 1, Summit Hill.
She was the wife of David M. Sokol Sr. They celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary in February.
Born in Ridley Park, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Gretchen (Willing) Ehle.She was employed by the Panther Valley School District and the Kistler Transportation Company as a bus monitor for the past 26 years. She was previously employed by the Jim Thorpe Area School District as a bus monitor for 10 years.
Mrs. Sokol also worked part-time at the Mahoning Valley Speedway, Lehighton, and the Mountain Speedway, Drums, Pa.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who would do anything and everything for anyone. She was a fulltime caregiver for her Aunt Betty Pearson.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansford, and Diligence Fire Co. No. 1, Summit Hill.
She was a cheerleading coach for the PV Knee-Hi Program and a member of the PV chain crew for home football games. She helped out with the Lutheran Food Pantry and loved doing all she could for the Lansford Coal Miner's Museum.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, David Jr., and his fiancée, Beth Burket, of Summit Hill; two daughters Jennifer Sokol-Kusse, and her husband, Ron, of Lehighton, and Patricia L. Sokol-Werner, and her husband, Barry, of Lansford; a brother Robert of Pennsville, N.J.; four sisters Elizabeth "Dolly," wife of Wes Miller of Lansford, Gretchen, wife of Robert Kunkle of Swedesboro, N.J., Barbara, wife of Mark Kesterson of Augusta, Ga., and Laura Mattera of Morton, Pa.; five grandchildren, Ashley Collins, Megan Kusse, Ryan Kusse, Tori Utruta and Cody Utruta; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Norton.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansford, with the Rev. Roy Koehler officiating. Interment, GAR Cemetery, Summit Hill. Call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Contributions in her name may be made to the Lansford Food Pantry, 104 E. Abbott St., Lansford, Pa. 18232, the Diligence Fire Co. No. 1, 114 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill, Pa. 18250, or Carbon Co. Friends of Animals, 900 Walnut St., Jim Thorpe, Pa. 18229. Arrangements by Sverchek-Blazosky Funeral Home, Powell and E. Bertsch streets, Lansford.
