Jan K. Anewalt, 74, of Avenue A, Palmerton, died early New Year's Day morning, Jan. 1, in Forest Inn, Towamensing Township.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Clayton and Mamie (Weida) Anewalt.
He was a labor leader in the beam yard of the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation for over 30 years before retiring in 1996.A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served during peacetime and attained the rank of lance corporal.
He was an avid dog enthusiast, having trained Doberman pinschers and won several obedience competitions over the years. He could be seen walking them in Palmerton.
A recreational pilot and motorcyclist, he flew vintage aircraft out of the Slatington airport.
Surviving are a son, Kyle B., and his wife, Erin, of Lewistown, Mifflin County; two granddaughters, Haily "Peanut" and Chelsea; a sister Betty, wife of Joseph Gall of Camp Hill; two brothers, Norwood of Forest Inn; and James and his wife, Christine of Lehighton; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie, Paul and Clyde.
Service: Graveside service with military honors 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, Towamensing Cemetery, Palmerton, with Scott Weldon officiating. Contributions in his name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, VA Regional Office, P.O. Box 42938, Philadelphia, Pa. 19101-2938.
