John J. Weiner, father and grandfather, 85, of Van Gelder Street, Tamaqua, died Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, surrounded by his loving family. |
He attended the former Cass Township schools, leaving to work in the mines to help support his family.Enlisting in the Navy, he served during World war II. Upon his return home, he worked at the Birdsboro Foundry until retiring, and then to keep busy by holding various local jobs.
- He was the husband of the late Margaret M. (Kupetz) Weiner, who died March 27, 2000.
He was an avid reader, gardener and animal lover. He enjoyed woodworking.
Born in Forestville, he was a son of the late Michael and Susan (Povlick) Weiner-Husowitz.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary Ann, wife of David Schmerfeld of Barnesville,
Susan Marie, wife of Bob Truskey, and Karen, wife of Randy Wasserleben, both of Tamaqua, and Peggy, wife of Keith Heckman of Nesquehoning; three sisters, Helen, wife of Andy Shepta of Philadelphia, and Kathy, wife of Arlan Wagner, and Sonya, wife of Edward Bosack, both of Minersville; two brothers, Paul Husowitz of Bethlehem and Joseph Husowitz of Pottsville; eight grandchildren; and a special friend, Carol Nagle.
He was also preceded in death by a son, John Glenn Weiner, who died July 29, 2006.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m.. Thursday, Dec. 13, St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua. Interment with military honors, St. Bertha Catholic Cemtery, Tuscarora.
