Joyce Steigerwalt Obituary
Joyce Steigerwalt, 74, of Andreas, passed into eternal rest on Friday, Feb. 8, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Allentown.
Those who know her best hope that Joyce passed peacefully to her spiritual Home and that her loved ones greeted her at the pearly gates. It would be great to imagine that she was immediately placed in Heaven's Grand Kitchen, where she kindly but firmly has taken charge of the kitchen staff and is now making endless orders of apple dumplings for hungry patrons. In her spare time, she would go back to the charity work that she dedicated herself to while here.
In life, Joyce's volunteer work included making bags to attach to walkers for nursing home patients throughout Schuylkill and Carbon counties, raising money to support her beloved St. Peter's Union Church of Mantzville, planning church bus trips, and coordinating activities for the church's retirees group.
Born in Palmerton, she was a daughter of the late Leon O. and Gertrude (Kistler) Miller.
Joyce was the beloved wife of Ernest W. Steigerwalt, and the couple would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on July 30.Prior to her retirement, Joyce was employed in the meat department at Laneco/ Food Lane for over 20 years.
She was not only a member of St. Peter's Union Church, but was also a Sunday school teacher for many years. She helped to start the church's Prayer Circle, was an active member of the seniors' group, long-term member of the Women's Association of St. Peters (WASP), a member of the Tender Loving Care Ministries, and a member of the Music and Worship Committee. She was also an auxiliary member of the former Andreas Fire Co.
Joyce will be greatly missed by her loving family, which includes daughter the Rev. Tina Louise Snyder of Orange Grove, Tex., and her husband, George Salinas; daughter Sandra Roth of Lehighton, her husband Jeffrey, and their two sons, Dustin and Devin; and daughter Lori Orach of Tamaqua, and her daughters Emily Demyanovich and Nastassia Orach.
Her oldest daughter, Cindy Troxell, passed away but is survived by her husband Dale of Andreas; daughter, Jennifer Woodward and her husband Steven of Andreas; and daughter Jamie Lorah, her husband Jason of Andreas, and their daughter Mackenzie.
Joyce was also preceded in death by a son, Brian Ernest Steigerwalt.
