Leonard "Blackie" "PopPop" Anthony Pasquale Martucci, 85, of Whitehall, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Feb. 3, in the St. Luke Hospital, Allentown Campus, with his loving and dedicated family by his side. |
Born in Weissport, he was a son of the late Innocenzo Antonio (James) Martucci and Antoinette (Dorothy) Cameron Martucci.A graduate of Lehighton High School, he was honorably discharged from the Seabees of the U.S. Navy as a Ship's Servicemen Third Class, attaining the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal.
- He was the husband of Elsie Rose (Koefer) Mar-tucci.
He previously owned Len and Spider's, Martucci's Inn, Allentown, and was a window/door installer.
He moved to Whitehall in 1958, and also resided on Adams Island, Lehigh River.
He was a member of Lehighton Memorial Post 256 V.F.W., the Fullerton Fire Co. No. 1, Allentown Swimming and Boating Club, Pa. Taverman's Association and the Allentown Bi-Centennial Brothers-of-the Brush.
During his younger days, he loved spending time hunting with his family, enjoying their home on Adams Island, watching the Lehigh River, and taking rides in the mountains.
In the 50s and 60s, he was a bugle player in the Emmaus Drum and Bugle Corps.
Surviving in addition to his widow are five children and their families, of which he was very proud: daughters Rosann M., wife of John Wieand, and Lenora M. Johnson, both of Whitehall, and Sherry A., wife of Joseph Garger of Kimberton, Pa.; sons, Leonard J. Martucci, and his wife, Christine, of Marmora, N.J., and Michael J. Martucci, and his wife, Susan, of Whitehall.
He was also "PopPop" to grandchildren: Len Johnson, and his wife Christina, Daniele R. Wieand Holland, and her husband Kurt, Nigel Palmer, and fiancée, Maegen Kozemko, Melissa Martucci, and fiancée, Joseph Nicosia, Alisha Martucci Almond, and her husband, Michael, Alexandra R. Garger, Catherine J. Garger, Ron Gallo and Martin Gallo; and great-grandchildren, Madison R. Holland, Killian J. Holland (PopPop's Dr. Holland), Damian Johnson, Gavin Palmer and Ryan Nolt; future great-grandchildren, Makenzie Grube, Drew Kozemko and Kameryn Kozemko; his former son-in-law, Robert Johnson; his long time companion, Sally Anne Crosland; a sister, MaryAnn Martucci Smith, and her husband, Ted; a brother, Carmen Martucci, and his wife, Kathryn; a sister-in-law, Lucille Martucci; 34 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a friend, Eddie Kroboth.
He was also predeceased by brother, Nicholas Martucci.
His family would like to express their gratitude to Judy Mwangi, caregiver; the Wound Care Staff at St. Luke's, Allentown; Dr. Scharle, Dr. Scobolinko and the staff St. Luke's, Allentown, for the care and friendship they have given to our Dad and to our family.
Service: Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 618 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall (located one block south of the Fullerton Ave. exit of Rt. 22), with the Rev. Edward J. Essig officiating. Interment, Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Visitation with his family 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday in foyer of church.
