Mrs. Margaret Johnson|
Mrs. Margaret "Peg" Johnson, 84, of Lehighton, died Friday, May 3, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of Bill H. Johnson.
She attended Hood College and entered nursing school at Church Home and Hospital and completed her training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md. Peg met Bill on a blind date while at Hood and they were married on Dec. 28, 1950. They raised five children and toured the U.S. as tent campers.
- Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Gorden L. and Margaret I. (Moyer) Reed.
Peg and Bill were world travelers and visited over 100 countries on all seven continents.
She was an active member of the Palmerton Historical Society, while her health permitted, and was a past Matron of the former John W. Luther Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Whitehall Township.
Surviving in addition to her loving husband are two daughters, Catherine of Pine Grove and Melissa Martin of Greenville, Idaho; a son, Bill Jr. of Ashfield; and nine grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by a daughter, Margie Anne Cunfer; and a brother, Gorden L.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Rd., Whitehall, with the Rev. Michael Bodnyk officiating. Interment, Dinkey Lutheran Cemetery, Ashfield. Call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Schaeffer Funeral Home, Third and Alum streets, Lehighton, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday in the church Eastern Star service 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
