Mercedes E. Machalick Obituary
Mrs. Mercedes E. Machalick, 78, of Effort, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the home of her daughter, Ursula Machalick-Truszkowski, and her husband, Karl, of Kresgeville.
Mercedes was the loving wife of Walter A. Machalick, who preceded her in death on March 14, 2012.
Born in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Agnes (Bernhardt) McArdle.
She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Gilbert. In 1990, she was active in the Renew program at the church.Mercedes was a devoted Navy wife and supported her loving husband during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
She was a devoted mother of ten and spent most of her time raising her children, working at Split Rock Resort, Lake Harmony, and working at the former Mt. Effort Fabrics, Mt. Effort.
We give thanks for the way Mercedes blessed our lives with treasured memories. Her loving devotion and faithful dedication to her family will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by her children: Regina, wife of Bart Semanchick of Albrightsville, Walter A. Jr., and his wife, Melinda, of Norwich, Conn., Andrea, wife of Carmelo Maldonado of Orlando, Fla., Dennis, and his wife, Suzanne, Matthew and Martin, all of Effort, Philip, and his wife, Susan, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gerard, and his wife, Tracie, of Mountain Top, Ursula Machalick-Truszkowski and her husband, Karl, of Kresgeville, and Daniel of Corpus Christi, Tex.
She was a loving and gentle grandmother to her 17 grandchildren: Dominic, Shanell, Natalya, Neysa, Ryan, Ellen, Ethan, Devin, Trevor, Bridget, Marshall, Christina, Andrew, Maria, Alex, Ivan and Olivia; and her one great grandson, London.
Mercedes is also survived by five siblings, Lucille Arbogast of Miami, Fla., Ann Marie McClusky of White Haven, Maureen, wife of Thomas Brown of Mountain Top; Jerome, and his wife, Cathy, of Lansford, and Paul of Summit Hill; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by 10 siblings, John, Francis, Eugene, Thomas, Vincent, Leo, Edward, Donald, Rosemary and Agnes.
Service: Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Rt. 209, Gilbert; Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m., Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Gilbert. Interment with her husband 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, Ft. Indiantown Gap National Veterans Cemetery, Annville. Call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
