Mrs. Pauline E. Benner, 89, of Lehighton, passed away on Friday, Aug. 24, in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. She was the widow of Gilbert L. Benner, who died in 1980.
She worked for the former W.F. Hofford Dye Works, Weissport, in her earlier years. She later was a cook for Tommy's Place, Lehighton, and then at the Carbon County Prison, from where she retired in 1989.
Born in Franklin Township, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Lillie (Eaches) Walck.
She was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton, where she was chairperson of the Worship and Music Committee, secretary/treasurer of the Willing Workers and a member of Church Woman United.
Mrs. Benner was a member of American Legion Post 314, an Auxiliary life member of Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company, and president of the Hi Rise Tenant Association, all of Lehighton.
Surviving are two sons, David, and his wife, Jean, of Yuba City, Calif., and Dean of Lansford; two daughters, Diane of Bloomsburg and Donna, wife of Victor Leidy of Lehighton; five grandchildren, Sharon, Thomas, David Kyle, Chad and Wanda; five great-grandchildren and a stepgreat-grandson.
She was also predeceased by five brothers, Paul, Thomas, Robert, Kenneth and George; five sisters, Lillian Ashner, Sarah Solt, Dorothy Ziegenfus, Marie Rehrig and Mary Schmalzel; and a grandson, Corey Meinhart, who died in 1995.
Service: Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today in St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton, with the Rev. Nancy Moore officiating, followed by interment in the Franklin Heights Cemetery. The Mayes-Melber Funeral Home, 200 Franklin St., Weissport, was in charge of the arrangements. Contributions in her name may be made to the church, 222 Church St., Lehighton, Pa. 18235.
