Raymond R. Essington, husband, father and grandfather, 86, of Washington Street, Tamaqua, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, in his home, while in the care and comfort of his family.

He had worked for the former Reading Railroad, and then was employed by Textile Machine Works, Reading.Born in Tamaqua, he was a son of the late George W. and Lottie (Whetstone) Essington.
- He was the husband of A. Ruth (Dietrich) Essington. They were married for 65 years.
He was an active member of Trinity U.C.C., Tamaqua, where he served as a deacon and elder of the consistory; was a member of the building committee and the Men's Brotherhood; and worked for many years in the kitchen. He was named elder emeritus there in 2001.
Essington was a 1944 graduate of Tamaqua High School.
A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He belonged to F. and A.M. Lodge No. 238, Tamaqua, for over 62 years.
Both Ray and his wife were intregal parts in the day-to-day activities of the North and Middle Ward Playground Association, Tamaqua, for many years.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Raymond, and his wife, Dr. Beth, of Sudbury, Mass., and Joel R., and his wife, Kathleen Schock, of Tamaqua; a sister
Betty, wife of Earl Boettger of Tamaqua; and two grandchildren, Joel and Andrew.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Scott, who died in 1954; two brothers, George and William; a half-sister, Grace (Gilfert) Martin; and five half-brothers.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, Trinity U.C.C., Tamaqua, with the Rev. Thomas H. Reinsel officiating. Interment, White Church Cemetery, Barnesville. Call 6-8 p.m. Friday, E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, and 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday in the church. Masonic service 7:30 p.m. Friday.
