Robert M. Rex, 77, of Lakeside Drive, Towamensing Township, Lehighton, died Sunday, July 7, in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton.
He was a laborer and foreman in the blast furnace of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation before retiring in 1992 after more than 30 years of service.Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Stanley W. and Ruth (Krum) Rex.
- He was the husband of the late Joyce (Miller) Rex, who died in 2002.
He was proud to be a direct descendant of, and was named after, Robert Morris, who had signed the Declaration of Independence.
An avid hunter, he was a member of the Penn Haven Hunting Club and the NWTF, and was a life member of the NRA.
He raised and showed German Beauty homing pigeons for a greater part of his life, winning numerous awards.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl, wife of Rodney Walck, and Bonnie, wife of Scott Ickes, and a son, Craig S., all of Lehighton; eight grandchildren, Dr. Jamie Neary, Amber E. Walck-Kocher, Trina Sawyer, Amy Gardner, Craig S. Rex Jr., Robert W. Rex, James R. Rex and Joshua C. Rex; seven great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and a niece.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, Mayes-Melber Funeral Home, 200 Franklin St., Weissport, with the Rev. Doug Evans officiating. Interment, Union Hill Cemetery, Lehighton. Call 7-9 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday. Contributions in his name may be made to the
