Mrs. Sandra H. Gerber, R.N., 70, wife, mother, and grandmother, of Brockton, died Sunday, Aug. 25, in the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. She was the wife of Donald C. Gerber. They were married for 50 years.
She worked for 40-plus years for the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, now the Blue Mountain Health System, Lehighton Campus, having been assigned to the maternity ward and also being a nursing supervisor.
Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Hazle (McMichael) Kalish.
She was a 1960 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and earned her R.N. accreditation from the former Hazleton State Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua.
Sandra enjoyed reading, boating, fishing and trips to the casino.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Shelly, wife of James Tomaszewski of Louisville, Ky., and Kelly, wife of Scott Reaman of Brockton; a brother; and four grandchildren, Abby and Adam Shumgart and Grace and Maggie Tomaszewski.
