Silvester J. Ligenza, 87, of 612 E. Patterson St., Lansford, died Saturday, Feb. 23, in Maple Shade Meadows Assisted Living, Nesquehoning. He was the husband of Irene B. (Porambo) Ligenza. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on June 16.
He worked for the former Bundy Tubing Company, Hometown.
Born in Lansford, he was a son of the late John and Angela (Kociolek) Ligenza.
He was a graduate of the former St. Ann High School, Lansford.
Ligenza served with the 95th Bomb Group in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He was a member of the former SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lansford, where he sang in the choir, was a member of the Holy Name Society, and played on the church baseball team.
He was a current member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford; a life member of the Lansford AMVETS; and a member of the Polish Citizen's Club.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son Thaddeus, and his wife, Gail, of Lock Haven; three daughters, Marian, wife of Mark Karoly of Fogelsville, and Rosanne, wife of Joseph Bevich, and Louise, wife of Joseph Pilla, both of Lake Hauto; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Bevich, Nicholas Bevich, Matthew Karoly, Anthony Pilla, Emily Pilla, Abby Pilla and Julia Ligenza; and a sister, Theresa Kocon of Bethlehem.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Rev. John, Walter, Peter and Stanley; and two sisters, Sister M. Presentata and Mary.
Service: Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, Skrabak-Parambo Funeral Home, 210 E. Bertsch St., Lansford; Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m., St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford. Military graveside service, SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Summit Hill. Call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Lansford AMVETS service 7 p.m. Tuesday.
