Stephen J. Marek, 90, of 20 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, passed away on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Lehigh Valley Hospice, 17th and Chew sts., Allentown. He was the husband of Anna (Krokovic) Marek. They had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past November.
Born in Summit Hill, he was a son of the late Stephen and Agnes (Culenka) Marek.
He was a graduate of Summit Hill High School.
He worked for the former Bundy Tubing in Hometown for 31 years, retiring in 1978. Prior to that, he worked for the Summit Hill Strip Mines.
Stephen served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during World War II in the European Threatre, receiving an Air Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with nine Bronze Service Stars.
He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Roman Catholic Church, Lansford. He was a member of the Summit Hill American Legion.
Surviving, along with his wife, is a daughter, Patricia Vaccaro, and her husband Thomas, of Allentown; a son, Robert Marek, and his wife Ann, of Collegeville; grandchildren, Brian Vaccaro, Mara Cappelletti, Meredith Pulley, Melissa Halphen, Casey Marek; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Paul and John; sisters, Pauline Thoericht, Agnes Zimmerman, Anna Greico, Katie Sniscak, and Mary Porambo.
Service: on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. from the Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Katharine Drexel Roman Catholic Church, Lansford. Military interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Summit Hill. Calling hours are on Friday from 9-10:30 a.m.
