Mrs. Gladys G. Whitaker, 80, of 56 Rupell Lane, Ashfield, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the Palmerton Hospital. She was the widow of Raymond Charles Whitaker Jr., who died in 2002.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at the former Golden Key Grocery Store, Lehighton, where she worked in the deli/produce department. She previously worked in the same capacity for the former Rex's Royal Swan Market and Rehrig's Meat Market, Ashfield.
Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Bernice (Beers) Smith.
She was a member of Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ashfield, where she was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Secret Sisters.
In her spare time, she loved hard core cooking for her loving family, gardening, sewing, feeding and watching birds, growing flowers and spending time with her pet cat "Baby."
Surviving are four daughters, Sue Ann Dunlap, Barbara, wife of Mickey Smith, Marjorie, wife of Edilio Castro of Ashfield, and Raeanne Whitaker of Hometown; a sister Judy, wife of William Kemmerer of Lehighton; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ashfield, with the Rev. Anthony P. Pagotto officiating. Interment, church cemetery. Call 10-11 a.m. Monday in the church. Arrangements by Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton.
