John H. Shiffert Jr.|
John H. Shiffert Jr., 70, of 6743 Pa. Route 873, Slatedale, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Kay F. Strohl Shiffert. They were married for 26 years on Sept. 26 of last year.
Born in Mahoning Township, he was a son of the late John H. and Minnie J. Haupt Shiffert Sr.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a senior control technician for Alpo/Friskies Pet Foods in Walberts.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Slatedale.
He was an avid sportsman, spending many hours hunting and fishing.
John was a life member of The Master Breeders Pigeon Club of The Lehigh Valley where he was a past president.
He also held life memberships in The Slatington Skeet Club and The Heidleberg Fish and Game Association, Germansville and held a membership at The Copeechan Fish and Game Club, Schnecksville.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Angela, wife of Ed Shoemaker of Slatedale; a son, John H. Shiffert III and his wife, Stephanie of Slatington; a sister, RoseMarie Shiffert of Lansford, two brothers, Harry of Lehighton and Gerald of Lansford, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Haydt.
Services: Funeral services 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton, Pa. 18235 with the Rev. Barbara Lee officiating. Call 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
