Katherine "Kay" Evans, 69, of Weatherly, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at Blue Mountain Health System's, Gnaden Huetten Memorial Campus, Lehighton, after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Weatherly, she had been residing in assisted living at the Village in Palmerton. She was the widow of the late Bruce Evans of Hazleton, who died in 2006. They had been married 40 years.
Born in Weatherly, she was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude (Behun) Smith.
She graduated from Weatherly High School in 1962.
Kay was an animal lover and animal rights supporter all her life. She was also very patriotic, and participated in many parades as part of a drum and bugle corps in her youth.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Miller, wife of Michael, Prospect Park, Pa; a son, Chris Evans and his wife Jennifer, Breinigsville, Pa.; a sister, Jean Sabalusky, Levittown, Pa.; six grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas and Hailey Miller and Gianna, Myla and Gabriel Evans; and many nieces and nephews.
Service: Private graveside services will be conducted in May as a celebration of Kay's life on what would have been her 70th birthday. Interment, Union Cemetery, Weatherly.
