Eugene G. Kistler, 74, of Laureldale, died Saturday, April 5, in the Reading Hospital, where he was a patient since March 26.
He married Rosalie (Romain) Kistler on Feb. 27, 1965.
He was a senior operator for the former Western Electric/AT&T for 40 years before retiring in 2000.
Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late George I. and Margaret F. (Kenney) Kistler.
Gene was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Hyde Park; the I.B.E.W. Local 1898; and the Telephone Pioneers of America.He enjoyed watching baseball, football and golf. He played semi-pro baseball in the coal regions in younger days.
- He proudly served his county as a military policeman in the Army.
Gene was most notable for his handyman expertise, his love for golf, and fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren.
He was father to Regina R., wife of Thomas Angstadt of Washington, Utah, Natalie Kistler of Rimrock, Ariz., and Marlene R. Padilla of Reading; the loving grandfather to seven grandchildren, Chad and Brynn Swavely, Brianna Buchert and Adryana, Alex, Daniel and Angela Padilla.
He is also survived by longtime friend, Nancy Frost. Additional survivors include two brothers, Joseph, and his wife, Marion, of Fanwood, N.J., and William, and his wife, Theresa, of Chalfont; a sister Margaret, wife of Joseph Delpais of MaryD; and a sister-in-law, Teresa Kistler of Lynnwood, Pa.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Charles and John.
