Anna M. Baransky|
Anna M. (Anita) Baransky, 84, of Pottsville, passed to eternal life on Thursday April 10, 2014, at Reading Medical Center.
She was born in New Philadelphia on the feast of Saint Ann, July 26, 1929, the second daughter of Nellie Whitecavage and Michael Margalavage, themselves children of Lithuanian immigrants.
For most of her life she lived in New Philadelphia, then in Cumbola after her marriage to Francis A. Baransky, who passed away in 1965.
Anita was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in New Philadelphia and during her marriage, a member of Saint Anthony's Parish in Cumbola (now Holy Cross Church). She, and eventually her three children attended Sacred Heart grade school, staffed by the Sisters of Saint Casimir.
A widow at 36, Anita was a loving and dedicated mother to three children: Cathie Henry, Phoenix, Ariz.; Dr. Thomas M. Baransky, San Diego, Calif.; and the Rev. Francis J. Baransky, pastor of St. Joseph Church in Jim Thorpe. Anita was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Shelonis, and nephew, the Rev. Joseph Shelonis.
She found her greatest joy and satisfaction in this life in her Catholic faith and her family, as mother and housekeeper, gardener and cook. May God grant her eternal rest.
Services: Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, April 21, at St. Joseph Church, 526 North St. (Route 903), Jim Thorpe. Private viewing at the convenience of her family. Burial at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Cumbola following the mass at Saint Joseph's. Contributions in her memory can be made to St. Joseph's Food Pantry, 526 North Street, Jim Thorpe, Pa. 18229, or Holy Cross Church, 101 Valley Street, New Philadelphia, Pa. 17959.
