Ernest W. Steigerwalt
Ernest W. Steigerwalt, 78, of Andreas, died Monday, April 14, in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Lehighton. He was the husband of the late Joyce M. (Miller) Steigerwalt, who died Feb. 8, 2013.
Prior to retiring, he was employed by Air Products, Trexlertown; was a butcher for the former Rehrig's Meat Market, Ashfield, and A and B Meat Packing and the Suburban Market, both of Allentown; and was a local farmer.
Born in West Penn Township, he was a son of the late Walter D. and Alma (Eberts) Steigerwalt.
He was a member of St. Peter Union Church, Mantzville.
Steigerwalt was a life member of the Andreas Fire Co. and a member of the Andreas Sporting Club, Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club, Lehighton, Mahoning Lions Club and the Grundsow Lodge 8 on the Lizard Creek, Ashfield.
He enjoyed attending the Pa. Dutch Fersommling.
He was preceded in death by a son Brian; a daughter, Cynthia L. Troxell; and two sisters, Mary Kunkle and Mildred Kleinhagen.
Surviving are three daughters, the Rev. Ernestine Snyder, and her husband, George Salinas, Orange Grove, Tex., Sandra, wife of Jeffrey Roth of Lehighton, and Lori Orach of Tamaqua; two brothers, Edwin, and his wife, Geraldine, of Tamaqua, and Elwood, and his wife, Mary, of Andreas; two sisters, Maralyn Miller of Lehighton and Joyce Kleinhagen of Reading; six grandchildren, Jennifer, wife of Steve Woodward, Jamie, wife of Jason Lorah, Dustin and Devin Roth, Emily Demyanovich and Nastassia Orach; a great-granddaughter Mackenzie Lorah; a son-in-law, Dale Troxell of Andreas; and several nieces and nephews.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, St. Peter Union Church, Mantzville, with the Rev. Cheryl L. Moore officiating. Private interment at convenience of family, church cemetery. Call 9-11 a.m. Friday. Contributions in his name may be made to the Kitchen Crew of the church, 184 St. Peter's Rd., Tamaqua, Pa. 18252. Arrangements by Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 W. Penn Pike, Rt. 309, New Ringgold.
