Edith V. Kakareka|
Edith V. Kakareka, 89, of Orwigsburg, and formerly of Tamaqua, died Wednesday, April 16, in Orwigsburg. She was the widow of Peter Kakareka, who died in 1986.
Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Rose (Eckroth) Melchoir.She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua, where she had been an active member of the Sodality of St. Vincent dePaul Society, Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, and the CWEA.
- Prior to retiring from the former TAMAC Manufacturing, she had been employed in local garment factories.
A 1942 graduate of Tamaqua High School, she was a member of the ILGWU and the Concerned Citizens of Schuylkill County.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Anne Lishman of Tamaqua; a son, Peter P. Kakareka Jr. of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Jennifer, and her husband Curtis, Jason, Joshua, Jacob, and Karina; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, infant Anne Marie, and Patricia Harris.
