Mrs. Mary M. Horner, 93, formerly of Tamaqua, passed away on Saturday, May 24, in Bon Secours Place ALF, St. Petersburg, Fla.
She married Paul W. Horner on Aug. 18, 1951, and they settled in Tamaqua, where she raised a family and lived until they retired to St. Petersburg in 2005 to be near family.They met at a Lakeside Ballroom dance and shared their love of dancing throughout their married life. They were married for 60 years.
- Born in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anne (Mondero) Mar-kovchik.
While in Tamaqua, she was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and took an active role with her husband in the local Marriage Encounter group, often speaking to regional groups in the Eastern Pa. area.
She was later employed by the Times News, where she held various positions both in and out of the office.
She enjoyed large family gatherings, particularly spending time with her seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 2011, and her parents.
Surviving are three sons, Paul M., and his wife, Margo, of Chicago, Ill., Don G., and his wife, Monica, of Baltimore, Md., and Alan J., and his wife, Beth, of St. Petersburg.
She was also the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Lauren Horner, Stacey, wife of John Butler, Julie, wife of Michael Boyk, Jenny Horner, Alana Horner, Austin Horner and Alissa Horner.
She is also survived by two sisters, Caroline, wife of James Clark of Cumberland, Md., and Gloria Kohn of Allentown; a brother Carl, and his wife, Vicki, of Newark, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.
Service: Celebration of Life is planned for both Mary and Paul at the Zizelmann-Roche Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad Street, Tamaqua, on Saturday, Aug. 2. Call 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with a memorial service to be held at 1 p.m. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua. Contributions in their names may be made to the Tamaqua Blue Raider Foundation, 109 W.
