Michael B. York
Michael B. York, 88, of Lansford, passed away on Friday at his residence.
He was the husband of Nora (Hafford) York of Lansford. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 29.
Born in Lansford, he was the son of the late Michael and Margaret (Lapos) York.
He was a graduate of the former Nesquehoning High School.
He was the proprietor of Mike's Market in Nesquehoning for many years, where he had retired.
Michael served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was a member of the Nesquehoning Amvets and American Legion.
He was a past member of the Nesquehoning Lion's Club for many years.
Michael was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Roman Catholic Church in Lansford.
Surviving along with his wife, are five children, Barbara Taptich and her husband Robert of Freehold, NJ., Michael R. York and his wife Diane of Norfolk, VA, Catherine Toner and her husband Joseph of Palmerton, Cecelia Melling of Norfolk, VA, and Janet York and her husband Robert Hahn of Oxford, England; two brothers, Thomas York and his wife Mary of State College, and Charles York and his wife Maria of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Margaret Dolena of Nesquehoning, and Cecelia Krajcir and her husband Francis of Allentown; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 1/2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Jack and Francis, and a sister, Anne Polivka.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 30, at 11 a.m. from St. Katharine Drexel Roman Catholic Church, 124 E. Abbott St., Lansford. Military Interment will follow at Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Calling hours are Monday morning from 10-11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Visiting Nurse Association, 800 Mahoning St., Lehighton, PA 18235. Arrangements are being handled by the Skrabak-Parambo Funeral Home, 210 E. Bertsch St., Lansford. Online condolences may be signed at
