Muriel L. Williams
Muriel L. Williams, 95, formerly of Slatington, died Friday, July 18, in Mrs. Bush's Personal Care, Kunkletown.
She was a secretary/business manager for the Northern Lehigh School District for 35 years before retiring in 1972. She served as secretary to seven superintendents.
She was a daughter of the late Edward O. and Emma (Long) Will-iams.
She was a graduate of the former Slatington High School and the Allentown Business College.In 1979, she was made an honorary life member of Eastern Pennsylvania Association of Retired School Superintendents.
Muriel was a member of the first Girl Scout troop organized in Slatington in 1931, and later became leader of two Girl Scout troops. In 1941, she was elected president of the Lehigh County Girl Scout Leaders Association, and she served two terms.
Muriel was a charter member of the Slatington Women's Club and the Northern Lehigh Historical Society. She was an active member of the Palmerton Camera Club and won many photography awards.
She was also active in the Palmerton Concourse Club, Palmerton Business & Professional Club and the Lehigh Gap Historical Society; was a life member of the Lehigh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retiree; and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Slatington.
Surviving are two nephews; Vincent G. Williams Jr. and Roger E. Williams, both in North Carolina; and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother Vincent; and a sister Marguerite.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, United Presbyterian Church, 6750 Pa. Rt. 873, Slatington. Interment, Union Cemetery, Slatington. Call 10-11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Arrangements by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington. Contributions in her name may be made to the church.
