Dr. Eugene Mones|
Dr. Eugene Mones, 79, of Jim Thorpe, formerly of Leonia and Paramus, N.J., passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, in the Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Nancy Lee Mills, who died in 1998.
An authority on environmental toxicology and risk assessment, he was a research scientist at Lever Brothers/Unilever from the mid-1960s until retiring in 1995.
Born in Hoboken, N.J., he was a son to the late Eugene and Maria (Schmelke) Mones.
A 1957 graduate of Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn., he served as a medical laboratory specialist in the U.S. Army, and received his Ph.D. in cellular biology from Rutgers University in 1978.
He was an active member of the American Society for Testing and Materials, and a lifelong model railroader who spent many happy hours at the Hudson Model Railroad Club in Plains Township.
Surviving are a son Mark of Charlottesville, Va.; a daughter Beth, wife of Jim Kelly, and his grandchildren, Liam and Erin Kelly, all of Jim Thorpe; and cousins in Connecticut and Florida.
