Salvadore A. "Sal" Messina Jr., 75, of 66 River Road, Tamaqua, passed into eternal rest on Friday, Aug. 8, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
They were married for 32 years on Aug. 7.Prior to retiring, he taught in the Muhlenberg School District for over 33 years, during which time he coached football, track and girls' basketball.
- He was the husband of Susan E. (Stei-gerwalt) Messina.
Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Salvador and Margaret (Kott) Messina.
He received a bachelor of science degree in secondary education from Kutztown University and later attained a master of science and education degree from Shippensburg University.
He was a member of Ben Salem UCC, East Penn Township, where he sang in the choir, served on the council and the church property and cemetery boards, and was a deacon.
In his spare time, he loved a good round of golf, spending time with his family, and participating with the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR).
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son Craig of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann Machamer; and four brothers, James, Lawrence, Miles and Anthony.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Rd., Lehighton, with the Rev. Michael J. McGowan officiating. Interment, church cemetery.
