Wilma P. Gurka
Wilma P. Gurka, 92, formerly of Andrewsville St., Lansford, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at Weatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Weatherly. She was the wife of the late John F. Gurka, who passed away on March 29, 2013.
She worked for several local garment factories for 40 years.
Born in Butler, GA, she was the daughter of the late Henry Rayford and Bessy (Cooper) Adams.
Wilma was a member of the former Ss. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, having been very active in the church and was a current member of St. Katharine Drexel Roman Catholic Church, both of Lansford.
She was a former Republican Committee Woman.
Surviving is a son, Richard Gurka, and his wife Linda, of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Sandra Kane, and her husband John, of Nesquehoning; grandchildren, John Kane, and his wife Jennifer, of Gilbert, Lisa Whitsel, and her husband Bill, of Coaldale, Brian Kane of Lansford, Christy Keeley, and her husband Jeremy, of Dillsburg, Jamie Reeder, and her husband Daniel, of Sterling, VA, Austin Turby, and his wife Alex, of Mechanicsburg, and Lauren Turby of Dillsburg; great-grandchildren, Rylee Reeder and Holden Turby.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Turby; and a brother, James.
Service: Funeral service is on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. from the Skrabak-Parambo Funeral Home, 210 E. Bertsch St., Lansford; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Katharine Drexel Roman Catholic Church, Lansford. Interment will follow at Sky-View Memorial Park in Hometown. Calling hours are Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
