Michael Batovsky Obituary

Michael F. Batovsky Sr., 89, of Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, formerly of Jim Thorpe, died Friday, Dec. 10, in the Hazleton General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jacqueline (Mooney) Batovsky, who died Jan. 18, 2002.
He had retired in 1984 from the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, where he had been a steelworker and a union shop steward for many years.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Kavacik) Batovsky.
He was a 1939 graduate of Palmerton High School and an Army Air Corps veteran of the Korean War.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Batovsky was a Democratic committeeman for many years.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post 304, Jim Thorpe; and a past member of the Fairview Hose Co., the Phoenix Hose Co. and the Diligent Fire Co., all of Jim Thorpe.
He loved hunting and being in the woods.
Surviving are two sons, Michael F. Jr. of Jim Thorpe and Peter of Inverness, Fla.; and a grandson David of Jim Thorpe.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Frank; and a sister, Mary Lenahan.
Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, with Rev. James T. Ward officiating. Interment, Evergreen Cemetery, Jim Thorpe. Call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Contributions in his name may be made to the Carbon Co. Animal Shelter, 63 Broad St., Nesquehoning, Pa. 18240.
