Walter Smith Jr., 73, of Jim Thorpe, passed away on Saturday, June 4, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Patricia (Gallagher) Smith. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on Dec. 13, 2010.|
He was a carpenter for all of his life, having worked for many different builders in the area.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Walter Sr. and Edra (Green) Smith.
He was a 1957 graduate of the Jim Thorpe High School.
After high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard, where he traveled around the world for 10 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Walter "Skip" III, and his wife, Diane, of Palmerton; a daughter, Kim Haydt of Lehighton; a granddaughter, Brianne Haydt; and a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Farrell.
He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Corey and Brett; and a brother Donald.
